Aftercare for Nipple & Areola Re-Pigmentation [Back to Aftercare Menu]

What to expect after procedure

  • Swelling, itching, scabbing, light bruising and dry tightness for 2 weeks.  Ice packs are a nice relief for swelling and bruising.  Aloe Vera Gel will help soothe the skin and allow the area to heal faster. To ease discomfort you may take a pain killer. These symptoms will subside within 1 to 2 weeks, depending on how sensitive your skin is.

  • Over the initial few days the pigmented area of skin will form a crust/scab. This will last for 14-21 days until healing takes place.

  • Colors may appear dark straight after the procedure. Do NOT be alarmed as the darkness will lighten after 2 weeks once all of the scabs have fallen off.

  • It is important that the healing process takes its natural course. Pigment will be lost if the crusts/scabs are removed or knocked off prematurely.

  • A touch up is recommended 60 days after the first session (free with first sessions only).  Please make sure to book your free touch up session within the next 30 days from your procedure. Otherwise there will be a charge.

After Care Instructions

  • The following instructions must be carefully followed for at least two weeks post procedure to ensure pigment retention, prevention of infection and successful results:

  • When showering or bathing take care not to soak the pigmented area with water.

  • To prevent infection, try not touch the pigmented area with your fingers until it is completely healed.

  • The area will begin to feel dry and tight as it heals and exfoliates.  It is important to keep the crusted tattoo moist and covered for at least 7 days after your procedure to protect it and to keep the pigment and body fluids from oozing onto your clothes.

  • For females: Wear loose clothing if you are sensitive.  Sports bras or a regular bra will help hold the bandages in place.  Male: Use 3×4 nonstick pads and paper tape over the tattoo to minimize sensitivity.

  • Change bandages twice a day, in the morning and evening for the first week.  Once there is no bleeding or discharge from the tattoo you can leave it uncovered for a few hours in the evening.

  • Do not sleep on your stomach.

  • Do not swim, sunbathe, or be in the ocean for 2-3 weeks or until completely healed.

  • Your areolas will appear darker immediately after the procedure but it will lighten as they heal.  If you have any redness around the tattoo area after 48 hrs. Please contact the clinic as soon as possible.

  • Keep the area clean by washing  gently with a mild,  hypo allergenic or antibacterial gel/body wash. Pat gently to dry the area.

  • Apply the aftercare Aloe Vera Gel with a Q-tip on small areas or use freshly washed clean hands/fingers for larger areas to avoid infection.  Never touch the procedure area without washing your hands.

  • Do not scrub, scratch, rub or pick at the crust/scab that forms.  Allow it to flake off by itself.  If it is removed before it is completely healed, the pigment underneath can be pulled out.

  • Avoid the gym, swimming and saunas until the area is fully healed.

  • Avoid salty foods, alcohol and coffee during the recovery period as it slows down the healing process. Smoking can also cause infections so avoid if possible.
